Meet a Hodger: Madelyn Balser

Madelyn Blaser is a social media whiz, thrifting queen, charcuterie board aficionado, and now the latest addition to our growing roster of former interns-turned-Hodgers.

Madelyn graduated from VCU in 2023 and began her public relations career as the social media manager for a local consignment shop. Soon after, she joined Hodges as an intern for the Virginia Spirits team, where her standout work and unwavering ambition made it a no-brainer to bring her on board as an account coordinator.

Without further ado, please meet Madelyn Balser.

What is your greatest achievement, either personal or professional?

I think I’m still too young to answer this question. What first comes to mind is graduation, renting my first apartment and perfecting my banana muffin recipe. I’m constantly working toward a great achievement yet to come.

Who is your hero?

Both of my parents are my heroes. I would not be as cool as I am without their taste in music, style and character.

If you weren’t in public relations, what do you think you’d be doing?

I’d love to own my own interior design/furniture flip business. Facebook marketplace and small coastal thrift shops are forever my favorite stores.

Any hidden talents?

Not so hidden, but thrifting! I’ve curated my entire apartment to look Mid-Century Modern on a budget, and it (finally) looks like my Pinterest board. Pro tip: thrift in small towns, not chain stores. I bought my coffee table worth close to $1000 for 45 bucks!

Any pets? Tell us a bit about them.

I have a kitty, Opie, named after The Andy Griffith Show. He’s almost three and arguably the biggest busybody I’ve ever encountered. However, if someone is going to watch me work, I prefer it to be him.

Favorite vacation spot?

I’ve been spending my weekends in Urbanna, Va., since I was 10. As much as I love Richmond, I love the Rappahannock River more. It’s the perfect place to disconnect after being in the city all week.
