Meet a Hodger: Breyana Stewart

From a young age, Breyana knew she wanted to work in communications. She once dreamed of becoming the next Oprah, majoring in broadcast journalism before realizing her passion lay behind the scenes—building relationships, telling meaningful stories and shaping narratives. That realization led her to public relations, where she thrives on connection and creativity.
For Breyana, the excitement of PR comes from seeing her work in action. Whether it’s landing a media placement or watching a piece of content resonate with an audience, she thrives on the impact. “The adrenaline that comes with seeing someone pick up your pitch or watching a post you wrote get tons of likes,” said Breyana. “It’s the best feeling.”
Welcome to the team, Breyana!
Who is your hero?
My hero is my grandmother. She’s no longer here, but I use her spirit to keep me going when I feel like I can’t.
If you weren’t in public relations, what do you think you’d be doing?
If PR weren’t in the picture, I think I could see myself as a screenwriter. After I decided that broadcast journalism wasn’t for me, I was actually an education major for a bit. Looking back, I don’t think I would’ve loved it, but it was a necessary detour to get me to where my heart really belongs.
Any hidden talents?
I like to think I’m really good at pop culture trivia. I adore trivia game nights with my family. One of my favorite games to play is Growing up Black.
Is there a brand you particularly admire?
I’m really impressed with Topicals, a Black-owned skincare brand that is making waves not just with its products, but for its creative and authentic marketing. I love their socials, brand trips, PR—I just think they are doing an amazing job.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about a career in PR?
It’s truly a learning game. Give yourself grace and remember that you aren’t expected to know everything or be 100% strategically inclined at the start. Find someone to guide you and cheer you on – you’ll need that voice of encouragement when you inevitably doubt yourself at times.
