The birth of the RVA social media club

I admit it, I’ve become one of the “gray-hairs.”  On my recent trip to Florida one of my cousins (insert Jewish accent here) looked at me and said “Jonathan, you’re getting gray….looks good though.”

I’ve been in Richmond now for 17 years and have “practiced” public relations and marketing for 16 of them. In all those years I can’t remember a time where the birth of a local industry group has been met with the excitement and anticipation that the birth of our (Richmond) Social Media Club has.

Maybe it is because it is finally bringing together marketers from allied disciplines not restricted by their ad, direct, PR, journo, etc. labels.  Maybe it is because we will now meet some of the people that we’ve already “met” through social marketing platforms like Twitter or Facebook.  Maybe it is because the leadership is excited, vibrant and full with new ideas.  Maybe it’s because of the great deal we’re getting tonight at Morton’s.

Maybe it’s all of the above.

All I can say is the event is sold out because of space considerations and unfortunately they will have to turn people away.  I though the only place that happened at in Richmond was at the Raceway during NASCAR weekend.

I wish the #RVASMC good luck.  I hope it can help us all bridge the media divide, collaborate and do great things.
