Facebook:  “Like” it or not

So the new “like” of Facebook Fan Pages seems to be the first step.

Based on comments made today by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “Like” and the “Like” symbol will become so much of our daily lives, it may become as universal as the Disney mouse ears or Nike swoosh.

Facebook plans to integrate the ability to “like” things and to see what others are liking into all websites even if you and your friends are not signed into the platform.  In addition, it plans on aggregating similar “likes” from sites such as Yelp and Pandora which are currently using the thumbs up or down as part of their platforms.

The implications of this “instantly social” world as described by Zuckerberg are staggering.  On e-commerce sites for example, you will be able to “like” a pair of pants or shoes, see if your friends like them as well, and share them immediately with others without ever signing on to Facebook.  More marketers that means instant peer influence and pressure.

Facebook then becomes an even more integral part of our daily online experience and it does it without making any of us try to hard.

Wow.

Thoughts?
