#AskJon: What do I need to keep in mind for my next Facebook Live event? [VIDEO]

So, let’s say you’re planning your Facebook Live event. The first thing you want to do, is plan out a promotional campaign. We’ve been experimenting with this and we like the two weeks out rule. So, again figure out who your audiences are and where they are on social. Create graphics and encourage everybody in your organization to share and post everything you’re posting related to the Facebook Live event.

As part of that, the next thing is you want to solicit questions before and during the event, so as you are promoting, ask for questions on the topic that you’re talking about. And then make sure, as you’re starting the event—it’s like you’re hosting a television show, but you want it to be interactive—so what can you do to get people to post, in comments or on other social platforms, any questions they want asked. And then, periodically during the event, make sure that you are every five minutes or so reminding people where they can post questions and comments.

And then third, do a dry run. You want to make sure everything’s working. Everything from your mouth all the way to the equipment the lights and the microphones. The last thing you want is to post a specific time for the event and then you’re five minutes past that window and you’re finding you can’t go on air because nothing’s working.

So, again, what do you do before, what do you do leading up to, and what do you do during are the key three steps in a successful Facebook Live event.
