Why did you decide on a career in PR?

Working in restaurants since I was 16 made me realize how much really enjoyed communicating and connecting with people, which is why I chose communications. I also became really interested in helping to elevate people’s and brand’s stories, so public relations seemed like the right track.

What are the biggest misperceptions about working in public relations?

This isn’t a misperception, but it can be very challenging to explain to my friends and family what I do for a living. Agency life means wearing multiple hats and supporting clients with events, content, media relations and so much more.

What is your favorite aspect of the workday?

The diversity of my workload each day keeps work interesting and never dull – some days are filled with meetings, others with blog assignments and sometimes I even get to drop off whisky to famous actors.

You are in charge of creating a music playlist for a road trip. What songs/artists are essential for your trip?

I literally love (almost all) music from pop to hardcore to country to classical. But a few of the essentials on my playlist include A Day to Remember, Taking Back Sunday, Sense Fail, Lizzo and Taylor Swift.

What advice do you have for young people who want to get into public relations?

My advice for young people who want to get into public relations is to network and get involved. Take as many opportunities as you can between internships and volunteering as well as participating in collegiate chapters of PRSA, AMA, etc.
