Guest Post from Cameron:  Houston, here I come!

Editor's note:  Here's a guest post from THP's Cameron McPherson who is leaving tomorrow to cheer on his alma mater VCU in it's quest to bring home the NCAA basketball championship to Richmond.

Cam's going to the Final Four!!!I’ve been tempted to email Oprah’s producers all week and say, “nana-nana boo boo” because I just one-upped O’s latest Australia audience trip. How’s that? I’m going to the Final Four! That’s right! The Final Four. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind an Australia visit, but I think we’re all in consensus that if you live in Richmond, a trip to Houston this weekend is a dream come true. So, Houston here I come!

This trip will go down as one of the best work perks ever. If the gym membership, great clients, cool co-workers and endless office snacks weren’t enough, now I’m headed to the Final Four on an 8 a.m. chartered plane, chock full of Ram fans, all thanks to The Hodges Partnership.

We found out Monday that one VCU grad at the office would get a free trip to the Final Four, thanks to a tradition started when they sent Steve Cummings to see his alma mater, George Mason, in the finals in 2006. Well, I’m happy to carry on the tradition! As Jon mentioned in a previous post, I was one of the four VCU grads in the office that initially said “no” when the offer was announced. Three of us, me included, were headed to Las Vegas next week for a client event (I have a “tough” gig, huh?) and another had family obligations. After some work load shifting (a testament to how supportive everyone is at THP!), I decided I could go.  After that, I lost my mind.

I’ve been on cloud 9 ever since I found out. Who wouldn’t be? I wish there were enough planes and hotels in Houston for everyone in Richmond to cheer on the Rams in-person. With the awesome coverage from local news outlets throughout the tournament, I’m sure everyone won’t miss a beat though. I’ve already heard that NBC-12’s @LincolnNBC12, CBS-6’s @Scott_Wise and the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s @RTDNEWS, will all be reporting and live tweeting during the game.

Me, on the other hand, will be blogging on my new Tumblr blog. Inspired by last night’s SMCRVA on Tumblr, I created goramsgo.tumblr.com to chronicle my trip. So, check-in often for updates and pictures. Hopefully, my pictures from my lower level seats will produce some good quality pictures (yeah, just had to brag a little more). See you in Houston!
