A whisky worth talking about: Our work with Virginia Distillery Company

We love working with food and beverage clients here at The Hodges Partnership. In my time at Hodges, we’ve had the opportunity to work with clients like Reginald’s Homemade, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurants and Chuy’s Tex-Mex on a variety of different projects, from national media relations to grand openings. We hadn’t worked with a whisky client, though…until now.

For the past year, we’ve assisted Lovingston, Virginia based Virginia Distillery Company with local, regional and national media relations efforts to promote the distillery along with their flagship product, Virginia Highland Malt, an aged malt whisky which is imported from Scotland and then cask-finished in Virginia port-style wine barrels.

In the past year, we’ve been able to work with them with the launch of their Virginia Whisky Experience, announce new products to the media (cider-finished whisky, anyone?) and hold a media event in the D.C. area showcasing the story of Virginia Distillery Company and its products. Those efforts have resulted in a number of media placements for the distillery, including a few of the recent hits we’re sharing below:

  • The Washington Post, The next big thing in American distilling: Single malt whiskey
    • Washington Post columnist M. Carrie Allan attended our D.C. media event back in October, and in this piece Allan says single malt whiskey is the next big thing in American distilling. Good timing, as Virginia Distillery Company’s Virginia Single Malt will be ready in a few years’ time.
  • The Huffington Post, The Ultimate 2016 Whiskey Roundup
    • In The Ultimate 2016 Whiskey Roundup, Virginia Distillery Company’s Port Finished Virginia Highland Malt Whisky came in at #3 on the list.
  • Chilled Magazine, Must Mix: South of Manhattan
    • Chilled Magazine, a magazine dedicated to the beer, wine and spirits industry, featured a Virginia Distillery’s Company’s South of Manhattan recipe on their website and social channels as a “Must Mix” cocktail.
  • CBS-6, Nikki-Dee Makes Whisky at Virginia Distillery Company
    • CBS-6 meteorologist Nikki-Dee Ray recently stopped by Virginia Distillery Company to try hand at whisky making for her “Can You Be Me?” segment. She even climbed on some whisky barrels to test the levels of the aging whisky.

If you’re a fan of whisky and looking for a distillery to check out in Virginia, Virginia Distillery Company is definitely worth a visit.

Cheers!
